FAQs

Here are some of the questions tutors are often asked, but if yours aren't included here - head to the 'Contact Me' button at the bottom!

How are the online lessons conducted?

Lessons are conducted online via video calls and virtual platforms using the Google Suite of tools e.g. Meet, Docs, Slides, Forms, Drive, Gmail, as well as Canva and other interactive digital tools.

What subjects do you offer tutoring for?

I offer tutoring in English Literature and Language academic qualifications for secondary plus students (aged 11 years and upwards). GCSE/IGCSE/A LEVEL inc. International/IB

In addition, I offer tutoring to support IB Diploma and CP Core subjects, and research essays e.g. The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ); Extended Essay (IBDP); Reflective Project (IBCP)

Why would I enjoy and trust your tutoring?

As an English teacher with over 30 years in the secondary and post-16 classroom, as well as a course leader, GCSE and IB examiner, and IB curriculum developer, I offer expert tuition across several English academic courses. While I taught in the UK, I am now based in Portugal and work with an international student clientele.

My students enjoy highly-personalised, engaging and interactive tutor sessions, with each lesson supported by bespoke resources designed to meet the student's specific requirements, at whatever point in the course they are. All resources are provided via Google Classroom, and tutor sessions are recorded with transcripts and chat records.

Written work for formative and/or summative assessment (practice) and feedback may be provided, using the relevant exam board's mark schemes, examiner guidance etc not only for grading but as a teaching and learning tool with students.

I am very happy to work with students across a wide range of different schooling contexts, including home-schooled or part-time e.g. due to health reasons. As a veteran course leader and curriculum developer, I can also design bespoke courses to support your particular needs or interests in English. A recent growing interest is in preparatory sessions for qualification courses, too eg. for IGCSE English; for Year 1 IB Diploma.

Please note: While I am NOT a SEND teacher I often work with students with a range of learning differences, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, ASD, which is another aspect to the highly bespoke tutoring I offer.

The student experience is supported by access to me outside of tutor sessions via WhatsApp or email, if required.

Do you offer a trial lesson?

Not exactly! But I do invite you to a free 20-30 minute initial consultation where you (parents/guardians welcome, too) can share your tutoring 'wishlist' with me, and I can begin to learn about your particular and most immediate learning needs and interests.

If you are happy after the initial consultation, I request a refundable payment for the first lesson in advance. I've not yet had a student request a refund or not continue ☺️
